About

As a guy who didn’t grow up with technology, who had a nokia brick as his first phone and had to use the family computer in order to access the internet, I’ve been enchanted by tech ever since it became more accessible.

I believe technology is wonderful when it serves us, sadly today’s technology mostly serves corporate interests.

I am a firm believer that anyone should have access to technology that makes your life easier, makes it feel like magic. That’s why I launched TechTurnsMagic. A place where I document my journey of reclaiming technology in a way that technology is the product, not you the consumer.

I believe that you should be able to have smart blinds or a smart thermostat, to make your life more comfortable without breaking the bank and without giving away your personal data to Google, Amazon and the likes.

The truth is, while this is possible, it’s not the easiest thing to do, so as I learn to do it, I am sharing my study notes and observations with you, so you can reap the benefits as well!

What does this mean? Well, it means that we look into using more private alternatives, mostly free opensource software, self-hosting and the likes.

All sound scary and hard, but trust me, once you’ve got it (which I promise won’t be long with my guides), it’s easy, as if it were magic.
